1998 BMW 3 Series
Wiper Blade Size

The 1998 BMW 3 Series uses 21"" and 20"" front wiper blades, with no rear wiper on this model. The blades mount on bayonet (slide-on) arms. This is a mid-size configuration typical of compact cars from this era.

The 1990–1999 BMW 3 Series all use the same wiper blade sizes, so any blade that fits the 1998 model will also fit these years.

Bayonet Installation Guide

Car driving in rain with wiper blades active
Bayonet Arms Difficulty: Moderate ~8 minutes

Bayonet arms use a slide-on mounting system where the blade locks laterally onto the arm. This type is common on European vehicles, especially French manufacturers like Renault and Citroën. OEM-equivalent blades from Bosch or Valeo typically provide the best fit.

  1. 1 Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
  2. 2 Locate the release tab or locking mechanism on the bayonet adapter.
  3. 3 Press the release and slide the old blade laterally off the bayonet arm fitting.
  4. 4 Align the new 21"" driver-side blade with the bayonet slot and slide it on until it locks.
  5. 5 Give the blade a firm tug to ensure the bayonet lock is fully engaged.
  6. 6 Lower the arm back to the windshield.
  7. 7 Repeat on the passenger side with the 20"" blade.
  8. 8 Spray washer fluid and cycle the wipers to verify smooth, streak-free operation.

Tips

• Bayonet arms are common on European vehicles, especially Renault, Peugeot, and Citroën models.

• The blade slides on laterally rather than hooking — make sure you slide in the correct direction.

• OEM-equivalent bayonet blades from Bosch or Valeo tend to fit more precisely than universal adapters.

Rear Wiper

The 1998 BMW 3 Series does not have a rear wiper blade. This is common for sedans and coupes. If your vehicle was originally equipped with a rear wiper and it has been removed, see our rear wiper delete guide for cap and plug options.
